La Burbuja , Miramundo
La Burbuja is a locality located in the highland area of Chalatenango, between 2,100 and 2,240 meters above sea level, and is made up of pine forest and cloud forest. In the surrounding area there is natural forest and vegetable-growing areas, as well as country homes. These characteristics create ideal conditions for the existence of highland birds. In total, 136 species restricted to the range of 1,500 to 2,700 meters above sea level are known to exist in El Salvador, 79 of which are found in La Burbuja, the most notable being Maroon-chested Ground-Dove (Paraclaravis mondetoura), Amethyst-throated Hummingbird (Lampornis amethystinus), Garnet-throated Hummingbird (Lamprolaima rhami), Northern Pygmy-Owl (Glaucidium gnoma), Unspotted Saw-whet Owl (Aegolius ridgwayi), Ruddy Foliage-gleaner (Clibanornis rubiginosus), Slate-colored Solitaire (Myadestes unicolor), Black-headed Siskin (Spinus notatus), Golden-winged Warbler (Vermivora chrysoptera), Golden-cheeked Warbler (Setophaga chrysoparia) and Cinnamon-bellied Flowerpiercer (Diglossa baritula).
Other species of interest, four that are endemic to Northern Central America and that are common in La Burbuja include: Blue-throated Motmot (Aspatha gularis), Rufous-browed Wren (Troglodytes rufociliatus), Blue-and-white Mockingbird (Melanotis hypoleucus) and Rufous-collared Robin (Turdus rufitorques).
La Burbuja has a network of trails that interconnect the entire property. There are also observation areas and a water stream that creates a natural and magical setting. Inside, there are cabins with all the amenities needed to stay in a rural setting, ideal for resting and enjoying nature.
If you're planning to go birdwatching in La Burbuja, the ideal months are November through April, but we recommend checking the weather forecast, as storms and strong winds are common in the highland areas of Chalatenango.
